A police report, or First Information Report (FIR), is often required when filing an insurance claim for a car accident, theft, or fire. The FIR is an official record that can help support your claim. When to file an FIR

  • Theft: You must file an FIR if your car is stolen. 
  • Road accidents: You must file an FIR if the accident resulted in injuries, fatalities, or significant vehicle damage. You should also file an FIR if a third party is involved. 
  • Fire: You must file an FIR if your car was involved in a fire. 

What to do after an accident

  1. Inform the police: Immediately report the accident to the police and file an FIR. 
  2. Inform your insurance company: Call your insurance company and provide details about the accident and damages. 
  3. Take pictures: Take pictures of the accident scene. 
  4. Collect documents: Gather all the required documents for your claim. 
  5. Submit your claim: Submit your claim form and all required documents to your insurance company
